Are You Overwhelmed With Worry Or Preoccupied With Fears?

Anxiety-Treatment-CalgaryDo you have persistent worries or fears that you cannot shake? Are you struggling to keep up with your daily obligations and effectively respond to changes and challenges in your life as a result of worry or fear? Are issues at work or at home creating or intensifying stress, fears, or uncomfortable sensations in your body?

You may notice that you avoid or fear being in social situations due to worries that something will go wrong or that you might be judged, rejected, or criticized. Or you may experience difficulties coping with increased or unanticipated stress that has left you feeling too overwhelmed to fall asleep or too exhausted to face your day.

Have you noticed that you are increasingly and uncontrollably restless? Or are you experiencing physical symptoms, such as tightness in the chest, other body tension, sweating, difficulty breathing, or headaches?

Perhaps you recognize that your home life, relationships and/or career are being negatively impacted by the physical, mental, and emotional distress that you are experiencing. Do you wish you knew where you could start to make meaningful changes and how to take control over your worries and fears so you can enjoy life?

Anxiety Is The Most Common Mental Health Issue Affecting Canadian Adults

Everyone deals with a degree of stress in their lives; however, excessive worries and unmanaged stress can lead to anxiety or exacerbate anxiety symptoms. Anxiety can be caused by a number of factors and may present varying challenges – like Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Performance Anxiety, Health Anxiety, and Test Anxiety, – and it is important to remember that you are not alone. Anxiety is the most prevalent mental health concern affecting Canadian adults, with one in four Canadians experiencing some form of anxiety in their lifetime. * Nearly 4 percent of Canadians experience chronic or severe anxiety symptoms, and, according to recent studies, women are twice as likely to suffer from anxiety as men. * The World Health Organization, Harvard School of Public Health and the World Bank predict anxiety disorders to be the second most common neuro-psychiatric disability in the world by 2020.

Anxiety, more than any other mental health issue, can be difficult to recognize without the help of an experienced, specialized professional. The Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada reports that the detection rate for anxiety disorders amongst primary care physicians is well below 50 percent, and is often misdiagnosed as extreme stress. Additionally, they also report that few mental health practitioners specialize in effective treatments for anxiety disorders. * If you have lived with anxiety since you were a child, your current struggles may feel normal as you have never known life without anxiety. Or perhaps you feel self-conscious or embarrassed by the challenges you are facing. Recognizing anxiety symptoms can be challenging, and the stigma surrounding accessing counselling keep many individuals from seeking anxiety treatment.

However, there is good news! At InnerPath Psychology, I provide you with the support needed to help you understand, manage, and reduce anxiety symptoms and related issues so you can take back control of your life.

Anxiety Treatment Can Help You Find Relief And Regain Control Of Your Life

anxiety-treatment-calgary-albertaAt InnerPath Psychology, I use effective, evidence-based anxiety treatment approaches, and tailor treatment strategies to best address my clients’ unique situations and goals. I offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment to help you determine the underlying causes and triggers of your anxiety. Working collaboratively, we can begin to develop the tools and strategies you need to manage and reduce anxiety symptoms and feel comfortable and confident again.

Your treatment approach will vary depending on the type of anxiety you are experiencing, your personal situation, and your anxiety treatment goals. When you understand your anxiety – its symptoms, causes and triggers – you will then be able to recognize how it affects you, your life and your environment and take the steps necessary to make meaningful changes. With guidance and support, you can expect to learn how to interrupt your anxiety response, reduce anxiety symptoms, and increase your self-awareness, coping skills, and capacity to sleep well.

To help you achieve your anxiety treatment goals, I utilize evidence-based methodologies like, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR Therapy. CBT has been demonstrably shown to provide the tools, strategies, and skills needed to successfully manage and/or alleviate mental, emotional, and physical anxiety symptoms. In addition to learning how to alleviate anxiety symptoms with CBT, EMDR Therapy can help you identify and address the cause behind current anxiety issues. With professional guidance and support, you can alleviate the impact of anxiety symptoms in all areas of your life and learn how to create lasting change.

I have been helping individuals manage and overcome their anxiety challenges for over ten years. During that time, I have supported countless clients in learning how to better understand themselves and their experience, as well as manage and reduce anxiety symptoms. With help and support, you can break patterns of anxious thoughts and behaviors and regain control of your life.

But you may still have questions or concerns about anxiety treatment…

I have tried anxiety treatment before and it didn’t help.
Many clients report that they tried therapy in the past, but didn’t find it helpful due to a lack of practical tools or techniques to apply outside of sessions. In sessions with me, you’ll learn strategies and tools that you can use every day to gain control over your anxiety symptoms. You will also get to practice these strategies and tools between sessions. Additionally, you and I will work together to identify situations or events that seem to trigger your anxiety and develop solutions to best manage problematic symptoms.

I’m worried about what others will think if I attend therapy.
We all have areas in our lives where we would like to experience healing and growth. When that challenge is physical or financial, you may hire a personal trainer or a financial planner. Anxiety can be a part of life that many people deal with at some point, and it may be brought on by stress or a change in your personal life, relationships or career. Professional anxiety treatment is simply a resource to help you gain the tools and confidence you need to feel happier, satisfied, and more in control of your own life.

I probably don’t need anxiety treatment. I’m just having a hard time right now.
If you have struggled with anxiety for a long time you may feel like the symptoms you are experiencing are normal for you. Alternately, you may believe that the challenges you are facing are “too small” or “not bad enough” to seek treatment. But, the truth is that anxiety treatment can be beneficial whether you are suffering from severe anxiety symptoms or from a milder form of anxiety.
